IT IS PUZZLING TO CONSIDER WHY SOME JEWS DO NOT RECOGNIZE JESUS AS THE LONG PROMISED AND AWAITED MESSIAH, WITH SO MANY PROPHECIES OF THE SCRIPTURES FULFILLED TO THE LETTER IN JESUS OF NAZARETH…
THE JEWS, AND YOU AND I, WERE EXPECTING A MESSIAH TO BRING US THE KINGDOM OF THIS WORLD, BUT JESUS OFFERS US SOMETHING INFINITELY BIGGER, THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN…AND FOR IT WE SHOUT “CRUCIFY HIM”! WE EXPECTED A BOSS, AND JESUS IS ONLY A GOD. WE WANTED SWORDS, AND JESUS GIVES US PALMS. WE WERE LONGING TO BE BOSSES, BUT JESUS ORDERS TO LOVE. WE WERE EXPECTING TO BE VICTORIOUS, WITH HONORS, AND JESUS COMMANDS US TO FORGIVE AND TO BE HUMBLE…. AND FOR IT, AS A CRIMINAL OF HIGH TREASON, WE SHOUT “CRUCIFY HIM”!!
THE JEWS DID NOT KILL JESUS, THE ROMAN SOLDIERS DID, UNDER THE COMMAND OF A ROMAN GOVENOR, PONTIUS PILATE… HOWEVER THE “REAL KILLERS” OF JESUS ARE YOU AND I, BECAUSE EACH TIME WE SIN, “WE CRUCIFY THE SON OF GOD FOR OURSELVES HOLDING HIM UP TO MOCKERY” (HEB 6:6).

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU GET HUNGRY AND WANT SOMETHING TO EAT?
WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE ANY FOOD AT ALL IN YOUR HOUSE?
JESUS TOLD A STORY ABOUT A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE WHO GOT HUNGRY. THEY WERE MEN AND WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO WENT TO HEAR JESUS TALK AND THEY STAYED AND STAYED AND STAYED SO LONG IT BEGAN TO GET LATE AND EVERYONE WAS HUNGRY. JESUS ASKED HIS DISCIPLES TO FEED EVERYONE, BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT. THEN ANDREW, ONE OF THE DISCIPLES, FOUND A LITTLE BOY WO HAD 5 LOAVES OF BREAD AND 2 FISH. THIS BOY WANTED TO GIVE HIS BREAD AND FISH TO JESUS. JESUS TOOK WHAT THE LITTLE BOY OFFERED AND SAID A BLESSING ON THEM.
THEN THE DISCILES WENT THROUGH THE CROWD GIVING OUT THE BREAD AND FISH, AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED?
EVERYBODY HAD ENOUGH TO EAT WITH EVEN SOME LEFT OVER. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY WERE FED? OVER 5,000 HAD SOMETHING TO EAT BECAUSE THIS LITTLE BOY SHARED HIS FOOD.
TODAY, THERE ARE MORE THAN 5,OOO PEOPLE IN THE USA WHO ARE HUNGRY.
THERE ARE OVER 280 FAMILIES RIGHT HERE IN THE CORRYTON AREA WHO DON’T HAVE ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED THEIR FAMILIES.
THESE ARE GOOD FOLKS WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE ECONOMY; HOURS CUT BACK, ONE MEMBER LOST THIR JOB, BOTH MEMBERS LOST THEIR JOB, DEATH IN THE FAMILY, SOME SORT OF DISASTER.
ON JUNE 2, 3, 4, CCUMC WILL BE AT THE IGA STORE COLLECTING FOOD FOR THE CORRYTON HOSPITALITY PANTRY IN OUR “FILL UP THE PICK UP”. THIS IS THEIR LARGEST SUPPLY OF FOOD OFFERED DURING THE YEAR. BUT WE NEED HELP TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PROJECT. WE STILL HAVE SOME OPENINGS TO FOR FOLKS TO MAN THE IGA. THREE HOURS, THAT’S ALL WE ARE ASKING, IS NOT A LOT OF TIME TO DEVOTE TO HELPING THE NEEDY.

Rabbi Shiomo Chein: Judaism didn’t start like other religions where you had one individual, be it Jesus or Muhamud, who claimed to have a revelation and then started a faith…in Judaism every Jew witnessed the revelation of God at Siani. And that is when Judaism began as a religion. Before that they were a people, descendants of Abraham, who is the father, not he founder, of Judaism.

A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I’m not shouting I’m clean living
I’m whispering “I was lost, Now I’m found and forgiven”.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I don’t speak of this with pride.
I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I’m not trying to be strong.
I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I’m not bragging of success.
I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I’m not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible. But God believes I am worth it.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I still feel the sting of pain..
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say…“I am a Christian”, I’m not holier than thou.
I’m just a simple sinner who received GOD’S GOOD GRACE, somehow.

THE GIFT WRAPPED CHURCH

Several years ago our family went on vacation. We packed our car and camper to travel to another state. Just before we left, our neighbors gave our daughter a gift-wrapped package about the size of a shoe box. They instructed her not to open the gift until she had traveled a hundred miles from home. When she opened the box, she found many smaller presents, individually wrapped. She opened her gifts on the following days of our vacation.
Our risen and ascended Lord has given the Church a marvelous gift, the gift of the Holy Spirit. This was the Church’s birthday gift, given on Pentecost. But the Spirit brings a multitude of other gifts--special abilities and talents that believers can and must use in ministry to each other. These are called Spiritual Gifts and are given to every believer. This tremendous variety of gifts is to be used for building up the people of God. When these gifts are used, the Church grows and matures. When even one gift lies idle, the whole body suffers.
