WHY I AM A CHRISTIAN

If someone ask you the question today, “Why are you a Christian?,  what would your response be?  Have you ever considered that question?  Do you really know why you are a Christian?
Many folks today, like myself, were brought up in a Christian family, attended Church every Sunday morning, went to Vacation Bible School and Sunday School.   They assume that they are Christians.
Well, better think again.  The only way to become a Christian is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  One must receive the Holy Spirit in your heart and let Him be your guide and teacher.
You have to use your Spiritual Gift/Gifts that God has given you, for the benefit of others and the Church.  A Spiritual Gift is a resource from God and if it is not used to Glorify God then it is “wasted”.  God requires Christians to use their gifts to further the growth of the Church and He will hold us accountable for our actions.
You not only have to attend Church every Sunday morning but you must participate and support the Church’s activities.  When a person joins the United Methodist Church, they make a commitment to support it with their PRAYERS, TIME, TALENTS and TREASURES.   Ask yourself, “Am I keeping that commitment?”.
You have to live your life in such a way that people around you see that as a Christian you “practice what you preach”.
Adam Hamilton, in his study of “Christianity and World Religions” ended with his response to the question “Why Am I A Christian” in the following way:
 1.  Because of the “Accounts of Eyewitnesses.”
 2.  Because of “Christian Ethics.”
 3.  Because of a “Compelling Picture of God.”
 4.  Because of the “Redemptive Power of the Cross.”
 5.  Because of “Life after Death.”
 6.  Because of the “EXPERIENCE of Christ.”

I urge each of you stop and ask yourself the following questions:
Why am I a Christian?  What do I really believe?  Do I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?  Am I the Christian God intended me to be?
